Tshirts to maxi skirt

Now that I'm working outside my home I can no longer wear my "mom uniform" (yoga pants and a tshirt). So I've had to get creative with the seven pieces of clothes that I have that are actually acceptable to wear, in public, to my job...and that don't make me feel totally uncomfortable. I've even gotten brave enough to wear two different skirts. Don't drop over in shock!! I really do not generally wear skirts...ever. Okay, maybe on Easter and to a wedding but that's it. But that may change...if I continue to find skirts as comfortable as the ones I wore this week. I saw the idea for this skirt on pinterest....another shocker right (although now I can't find it, go figure)?!

I was able to make this skirt in about 45 minutes and it cost me $9...well, actually a little less than $9 because each shirt was $3 and I didn't use any shirt in its entirety. I just cut the shirts under the armpits and cut the bottom hem off the black and green shirts. I kept the hem on the white shirt so that I wouldn't have to create a new hem! Then I sewed the shirts together using a zig-zag stitch and created a casing for my elastic, put elastic in and I had a skirt! Now, since I'm no "sewing with knits" expert this skirt does have a few areas that pucker a bit between the green and black because it stretched more than it should have but once I ran my iron over it that helped smooth it out a bit (go figure, an iron making things smooth! ha!).

This skirt is SOOOO comfortable! It's the next best thing to my yoga pants!! I still get to wear tshirts to work...they are just disguised as a cute skirt! I have a few more shirts in my closet that I am planning on using for another skirt! At this rate, I could be wearing skirts much more often...but don't hold me to it!
What have you made lately from old or new cheap tshirts?

Little Boy Blue, A Shower Cake Gift...

Little Boy Blue Party...

Little Boy Blue...A Baby Shower
A very good friend asked me to help with a baby shower for her FIRST grandchild! She was holding a small family baby shower on a Tuesday afternoon.
*Find the recipe for this cake at the bottom of this post!
I offered to do the Centerpiece, which would also be my gift!
A Baby Shower Cake...made from Diapers, blankets, towels, toys etc.
It turned out so CUTE!
Our Guest of Honor & his Mommy!
Two weeks old! Precious!!!
So Cute...and fun to put together! We set a white bowl upside down, placed a platter on top, then a wicker style charger...AND then the CAKE!
We used burlap, twine and wicker to embellish the Blue Shower items. Everything came together so quickly....It took only minutes to set up for the shower.
Another view of the baby cake.
There are 50 diapers inside this cake!
Items for the cake...I went to Walmart & Michael's for everything!
Two layers of the cake are done....
I rolled the diapers inside a bath towel and rolled them into a cake layer. I tied it together with twine to hold it together.

This Gift Idea is so simple to do...Just have fun with it! I used socks, pacifiers, wash clothes, onesies, baby trinkets from Micheals, towels, diapers.....I also used Quilting straight pins to pin several items on the cake! They are longer than normal sewing pins. You may also use corsage pins. A little ribbon and a little imagination.....

Everyone LOVED it ...
especially... Mommy & the Grandma's!

I put a simple gift tag on the rubber ducky and my gift was ready to take center stage!

ADORABLE!!!

I found these cute little boxes at Michaels
We sat small topiaries in the box and used a brown tissue paper to stuff around the trees. Placed it on a wicker charger and TA-DA...
 called it done!
These boxes anchored each side of the Diaper Cake.
 Gift Table....
My Girlfriend chose finger foods & light desserts to serve her guests.
Cheese, Fruits & Veggies, Crackers, Rounds of Baguettes, a Chicken Pesto Dip and a Smoked Salmon Spread...YUMMY!
 For Dessert...
Strawberries & Cream Cheese drizzled with Chocolate
(Her lovely daughter's creation) and Angel Food & Pineapple Cake!
DOUBLE YUMMY!!
A Simple Shower with BIG results and a
Prescious Baby Boy!
A Sweet Baby Showered with Love & Style...

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...
I took Mom out to lunch today...
Then we went thrift shopping! We hit the Mother Load of Gold finds!!!
This Mirror was just one of the treasures!
This antique mirror had been painted! With heavy enamel white paint...
I wanted to restore the antique look! BUT... it was TOO heavy with paint to sand & distress!
SO...I used some stain to quickly add character!
It only took a few moments to transform and restore it to its previous antiqued beauty!
I used a stain pen, in a Golden Oak color!
Just color it on and wipe it off!
AND let dry...
It's THAT simple!
The back of my $20 dollar mirror! It is in really good shape!
 Dried and ready to hang...
To protect my walls, I place felt pads on the back . It slightly lifts it away from the wall and stops scratches from happening.
Easy Peasy, peel & stick!
 LOVE it!!!
This is how it looks outside the mirror! This is a tall chest of drawers. I love the height this combo creates! This corner was so plain!
I don't have a lot of free wall space...
so we cornered the dresser!
Like most people we bought our furniture while living in another house... Sooo, we place furniture items where we CAN!
ARG!!! :S
(Yes..I said; CAN! Where WE are ABLE TOO!)
Love my Bedroom set...we have had it for 20+ years and its beauty lives on....
*When I finish my Master Bedroom make over...
I WILL SHARE!
 Light ON!
Light OFF!
Clap On..Clap Off...!
Haha, those of you that know the TV commercial I'm referring too...
I know you are LAUGHING!
I couldn't resist! :)
